The annual met at Beccles saw 6 boats arrive at the ahrbour.....and one motor caravan - Les and Sheila Buck decided that although their boat was now on the upper Medway, they still wanted to join in ! The weather was variable to say the least with sunshine and showers and lots of wind. In fact the wind was so strong from the north that the ebb tides did not see much of a fall before the next flood started. This resulted in Mike ( Seascape) holding a bank side coffee morning from 04.15 to 07.30 when he, Anthony Barber and Vic Hodson patrolled the path around the mooring to keep boats from coming ashore......wellies were the dress code as the path was under 6 inches of water. The main danger was bathing platforms getting hooked over the path as we were moored stern to. The barbecue on Saturday was held in early evening sunshine as the rain clouds went elsewhere and a good time and good food were enjoyed by all. It was good planninng to have the main event on that evening as Sunday evening was wet and windy. The usual plan to see the fireworks at Oulton Broad was dropped by agrreement by all, as the winds were strong and nobody fancied mud-weighting. The fleet split to two different mooring places.......and the wind dropped to nothing ! The Somerleyton Bridge fiasco did not cause too many problems, but remains an inconvenience as cruising to this part of the Broads revolves around the two bridge opening times. Vic Hodson
