Diamond Jubilee PageantOpportunity to represent Norfolk and Broom in the Queen’s Pageant on the Thames 2012

The Queens Boat Pageant on the Tidal Thames is to be held on 3rdJune 2012. Through Martin Broom, our club has been invited by the Lord Lieutenant of Norfolk to provide a Broom Boat and its crew to represent the county and to have four or five of their dignitaries on board with them. Obviously this will represent a guaranteed place for this boat subject to the vessel and its crew complying with the overall registration conformance required by the organising committee.

In conjunction with other committee members and after further discussions with Martin Broom a way forward to select the representative has been agreed.

1.The boat should be 38’ or over in length

2.It should be a Modern Glass Fibre Hulled boat probably less than 20 years old

3.The Crew must have experience of the Tidal Thames and its navigation/tidal issues between the 02 building and Hammersmith Bridge.

4.The crew must agree to have the official visitors on board

5.The owners must agree to the conditions imposed by the overall organising committee of the event and will be subject to their rules in the normal way.

6.The Boat must be in position ready for the event with plenty of time in hand.

The selection process will be as follows.Any club member who wishes to enter must send an email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or letter to Frank Hawkins by 30th June stating that they wish to be considered. They will need to give:

  • Their address and email if available
  • Best contact telephone number
  • The Name of the Boat
  • The Port of Registration of the Boat
  • The Model Name and Overall Length

Their experience of navigation of the relevant area in London

It will also be essential to confirm that you have read the following registration information etc

http://www.thamesdiamondjubileepageant.org/RegisterVessel.aspx

A Sub Group of the committee ( The Chairman with two non eligible committee members) will then discuss the applications and a selection will be made with a reserve. The Chairman will then advise Norfolk County (via Martin Broom) of the decision and once they have accepted this nomination, formal registration in their name can be made by the first choice Skipper and Boat. If this founders for any reason, then the reserve will be asked to progress to registration. This must be done by a date that will be advised later to ensure there is time to complete this exercise within the normal registration guidelines.

I look forward to receiving your entries

Yours Broomily

Frank Hawkins (Chairman Broom Owners Club)
