Despite the recent strong southwesterly winds we moved Boisterous Mistress from her winter moorings at Limehouse to Grove Ferry in Kent over last weekend.
In preparation for those club members intending to venture up the river Stour for the event planned for July, I thought some photo's of the route across Pegwell Bay from Ramsgate and up the lower part of the river to the swing bridge at Sandwich might be of interest. The following sequence of photo's were were taken on our most recent trip, starting with this one which shows us leaving the entrance to Ramsgate harbour.

The past weekend started for me on Friday morning with an early morning trip to Limehouse by train to meet my willing crew who had agreed to help move the good ship 'Boisterous Mistress' to Greenwich Yacht Club's pontoon mooring on the tidal Thames ready for the Saturday event. The short voyage was completed without incident and we were soon moored on the 'calmer' inside of the pontoon for the weekend. Jackie arrived by car early afternoon with all the essential items of equipment needed for the event after which we helped Greenwich Yacht Club members to prepare the venue for the following day.

The visit went ahead as planned with those attending meeting in a lay-by overlooking Dover Castle. We were warmly welcomed by the staff on duty who explained their particular roles as they worked. Everyone agreed that the visit was extremely interesting.
Having left the Coastguard station we drove in convoy the short distance to St Margaret's Bay where we enjoyed an early evening meal at 'The Coastguard' Pub. Kelston Tobin

A large proportion of the boats that joined the 'Little Ships' fleet in Dunkirk for the 70th anniversary of the evacuation were Broom boats and members of the Broom Owners Club, there were eleven in our group alone but others were moored elsewhere.

34 club members made it to the CA building at Limehouse on Saturday evening to hear David and Val Evernden's presentation about thier voyage to the Med in 2005 aboard 'Lace' their Broom 10/70.
Not only did they detail the voyage and the preparation of the boat but also highlighted all the other considerations that have to be taken into account when leaving your home in the UK for an extended period, and living on your boat in a foreign country.
