The past weekend started for me on Friday morning with an early morning trip to Limehouse by train to meet my willing crew who had agreed to help move the good ship 'Boisterous Mistress' to Greenwich Yacht Club's pontoon mooring on the tidal Thames ready for the Saturday event. The short voyage was completed without incident and we were soon moored on the 'calmer' inside of the pontoon for the weekend. Jackie arrived by car early afternoon with all the essential items of equipment needed for the event after which we helped Greenwich Yacht Club members to prepare the venue for the following day.
After a somewhat lumpy night on our boat we awoke to a very blustery Saturday morning and were ready to welcome 43 BOC club members ready for the 10.30am start. Many had battled with various traffic problem in central London. Coffee and tea was available on arrival together with a very nice selection of pastries supplied by our hosts, soon it was time for the presentations.
Mike and Joan Smith started with detailing their trip to the Med last year aboard their new Broom 395 together with their cat 'Chilli'. This was followed by Jeff Gartshore recounting their adventures of cruising Wales and the North West of England. He and his wife Gerry had transported their Broom 38 by road from the Solent to Bristol at the beginning of their cruise and returned it from Liverpool back to the Solent at the end. The final presentation was by David Haugh who explained some of the benefits of not having a permanent mooring and told us about some of his single handed experiences aboard his Broom 10/70, including his experiences of inland Belgium and northern France.
The presentations were very professional, entertaining and interesting and were followed by a much enjoyed three course lunch in Greenwich Yacht Club's stunning club house on the edge of Thames, after which most headed for home. Jackie myself and our guest for the weekend Louise had another bumpy night on the yacht club mooring pontoon - best described as like being inside a washing machine!
Many thanks Mike and Joan, Jeff and Gerry and David for their most interesting presentations, and my thanks to all of you who attended and made this event a success.
