Despite the recent strong southwesterly winds we moved Boisterous Mistress from her winter moorings at Limehouse to Grove Ferry in Kent over last weekend.

In preparation for those club members intending to venture up the river Stour for the event planned for July, I thought some photo's of the route across Pegwell Bay from Ramsgate and up the lower part of the river to the swing bridge at Sandwich might be of interest.

The following sequence of photo's were were taken on our most recent trip, starting with this one which shows us leaving the entrance to Ramsgate harbour.

  • From Ramsgate line up thin chimney with left large one
  • Port marker and green buoy at start of channel
  • Next port and starboard buoys heading towards beach
  • Next pair of port & starboard markers
  • Port markers leading to river mouth

What sort of depths do you have on your way up to grove ferry Kelston?

Used
to live near Canterbury and I kinda picture the river being quite narrow and
shallow by the time that you are approaching the top end?

Our 37 needs 1.4M and we have been in and out of the Stour many times during the
last six years normally with spring tides, on our last trip we entered the Stour
about an hour before HW Ramsgate and halfway between springs and neaps and still
had enough depth at the entrance, once up river of Richborough depth is not a
problem if you keep out of the weeds.
