Southern and South West Region came to Yarmouth Isle of Wight for the May Bank Holiday Weekend. This well established event this year had eleven Broom Boats booked (plus one friends boat who pretended to be a broom anyway!) Terry and Gill Bishop of G and T did the organisation and ensured that we had a really enjoyable time.
Saturday evening was spent in the Royal Solent Yacht Club enjoying an excellent meal whilst watching the light glisten over the seas to Lymington. The Pimm's thoughtfully included before the meal ensured the evening started off well and the excellent bar and wines made it easy to continue this for the whole evening. 10 out of 10 for enjoyment.
Sunday saw the 30 Broomers on their way to Cowes for lunch in the Island Yacht Club. OK, we went by local buses, but the sea was a wee bit choppy! Again a delightful meal with a Carvery to challenge even the largest of the party.
But the wind was blowing and by the Monday when we were due to leave the Met office kindly gave "Wight" a Gale Warning, so we stopped another slightly windy night in Harbour.
In fact the title of this article refers to the superb way that the Broom team set about pulling some of our boats further up the pontoons to reduce the effect of the Northerly gale on some of the boats who were originally closer to the entrance. Our regional team can now challenge any other region in the sport of Tug a Broom!
Happily on Tuesday the winds quietened and we all left able to return to our home ports. Our next event is to be a Midweek meeting at Lymington Harbour on the Dan Bran Pontoon on 14th and 15th July being organised by John and Gill Oldham. Their email is

Our 10 + boats at Yarmouth enjoyed ourselves so much that another member is also organising a get together in Gosport (Portmouth Harbour) for August or September hopefully - more details soon.
