The now annual Boveney BBQ was held on the weekend of June 11th. A staggering seventeen craft and 40 members turned up, and enjoyed the meet which takes place over three days. We also welcomed Mark Garner, managing director of Broom Boats Ltd and also Dominic Smulders, managing director of Bray Marines Sales, who came along with a brand new 395. The Saturday evenining BBQ was blessed with dry weather and some members were still on the bank at 11.54pm.
Thanks must once again be awarded to Jackie Morgan for her seemingly unending devotion to providing much of the buffet, also to John Nye who, provided he is plyed with a few beers is great with a BBQ. Sunday's lunch however was plagued with wind and rain, but it still didn't appear to dampen to spirits of those joining for lunch, in fact four more members came along by car. The last of the boats departed Monday morning, after what can only be described as a fabulous weekend. The boats came from all over the Thames, from Penton Hook to Abingdon and one miniscule Freeman 32 owned by Don Walker made it under duress after a few mechanical problems (fortunately David Harrision, our technician, managed to keep it going). Don also has a Broom so we made the exception of allowing the Freeman into the ranks, perhaps the Broom would have been more reliable but thanks for making the effort to come. Thanks to everyone who attended, it was wonderful to see you all and I look forward to meeting you again either along the river or at one of our next organised get togethers. Keith Robbins - White Onyx.
